In this section you will find plenty of information on the many ways to travel to “La Vieille Forge”.  You can fly, drive or take the train; whatever means you choose, Vijon and “La Vieille Forge” are just a few hours away.

 

"La Vieille Forge" is the first house on the road, after the cemetery.

By Plane

You can fly to Paris from many British towns. "La Vieille Forge" is about three hours away from Paris, both by car and by train.

Very cheap flights to Limoges, Bellegarde Airport (www.aeroportlimoges.com), are available from London Stansted (www.baa.co.uk/main/airports/stansted/), from Bristol (http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/), from East Midlands Airport, from Liverpool, from Nottingham and from Southampton.  Limoges is less than two hours away by car from "La Vieille Forge", to the South.

 

By Car

From the North:

Paris, A 10 to Orléans,
A 71 to Vierzon,
A 20 to Châteauroux (exit 12),
D 943 to La Châtre,
then D 917 to St. Sevère-sur-Indre, Vijon and "La Vieille Forge".

 

From Limoges:

Limoges, Bellegarde Airport, D 2000 to Rilhac-Rancon,
A 20 to Châteauroux (exit 23a),
N145 to Guéret,
D 940 to Genuillac,
D 3 to Tercillat,
then D 2 and D 71 to Vijon and "La Vieille Forge".

For Sat-Navs, the postcode is 36160 Vijon, and "La Vieille Forge" is situated on the D71, near the crossing with the D10.

By Train

From the North:

Trains from Paris (Gare d'Austerlitz) to Châteauroux take around 1.5 hours and leave several times a day.  Châteauroux is about 1 hour away by car to the North of Vijon. 

Alternatively you can continue on to St. Amand-Montrond and Montluçon; the whole journey takes around 3 hours (some trains require a change in Vierzon).  Montluçon is about 50 minutes away by car from "La Vieille Forge".  You can purchase your train tickets on-line and it will be posted to the UK: www.sncf.com.

 

Car Hire

Limoges Airport:

Châteauroux:

Avis car rental available at the railway station; Hertz very near, opposite the station (to the left as you exit the station).  Car rental can be arranged from the UK by phoning Avis on 0870 6060100 (or on the internet: www.avis.co.uk) and Hertz on 08708 448844 (www.hertz.co.uk).

Montluçon:

Hertz and Avis offices.  The Avis office is closer to the railway station, but the Hertz office is not very far either (600 m. away, in Faubourg St. Pierre).  Avis cars can be left at the station outside office hours by dealing with the railway personnel.  Car rental can be arranged from the UK by phoning Avis on 0870 6060100 (or on the internet: www.avis.co.uk) and Hertz on 08708 448844 (www.hertz.co.uk).
